OOOSplat 0.7.0:

OOOSplat v0.7.0 has been released — an update to the local app for converting video and images into 3D Gaussian Splatting. The release adds panoramic video and image generation, import of external models, export to several formats, horizontal WASD movement and automatic camera positioning. Details are in the release description on GitHub.

What it means

In our reference, OOOSplat lists only PLY export. Release 0.7.0 expands this: standard PLY, compressed PLY, SPZ v4 and single-file SOG are now available. The author notes that SOG and SPZ are usually smaller in size, but compression can affect detail, and the current SPZ encoder has a coordinate limit of roughly ±2048 scene units. Panoramic generation is a new direction for the tool that was not in the fact sheet. Already stitched monocular 360°x180° panoramas in 2:1 ERP MP4 format and folders with panoramic images are supported. A separate training recipe is used for panoramas, with Splat limits from 1 to 10 million depending on the mode and VRAM. The first version does not support dual "fisheye," binocular, VR180, cropped panoramas and proprietary manufacturer sources. Import of external models accepts standard and compressed PLY, SOG, SPZ, SPLAT and KSPLAT. External files remain read-only, and deleting an imported project does not affect the source files. Projects with COLMAP only, regular PLY point clouds, 2DGS, LCC/LCC2 and streaming SOG are not supported. The app still runs locally: the entire process uses the machine's CPU and GPU, with no uploads, projects or models to cloud services. The code is open source under the Apache-2.0 license, and the platforms are Apple Silicon, Windows and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x86_64 in Alpha status. The update makes OOOSplat noticeably broader in input and output formats, but panoramic support is still limited to a first version with a number of exceptions.
