frametell: video generator — what it does and what you need to run it

Frametell is an open source video generator from Sitor. It is designed to turn ideas and materials into explainer videos. An AI director agent handles video creation, and the workflow is local-first with support for connecting different models.

What it does

As described by the author, Frametell turns ideas and materials into clear explainer videos. At its core is an AI director agent that manages the video creation process. The project is tagged text-to-video, storyboard, tts and video-generation, which points to work with text scripts, storyboarding and speech synthesis. The code is written in TypeScript.

The authors emphasize the local-first principle: data and the generation process stay on the user's side. Support for any model is also claimed — any model, as the developer puts it.

What you need to run it

The platform, as described by the author, is macOS on Apple Silicon. To install, download the .dmg from the latest release, open it and move Frametell to the Applications folder. The app is signed and notarized by Apple. Chrome, Edge or Chromium must also be installed: Frametell uses it to render and draw pages.

The code is distributed under the AGPL-3.0 license. This is an open source license that permits use, modification and distribution but requires derivative works to remain open and their source code to be provided when interacting over a network.

The latest release is v0.7.1. The repository was created on October 10, 2026, and the last code change was on October 19, 2026.

Who it suits

Frametell is aimed at those working on Apple Silicon who want to assemble explainer videos from their own materials without sending data to external services. The project will interest creators of educational content and anyone experimenting with video generation via text scripts and storyboarding.

It is not suitable for Windows or Linux users: the authors list only macOS on Apple Silicon. One of the Chromium-based browsers is also required — without it, pages are not rendered.

Frametell is at an early stage: the latest release is v0.7.1, and at the time of publication the repository is less than two weeks old. This is worth keeping in mind when planning workflows.
