FieldCraft: 3D generator — what it does and what you need to run it

FieldCraft is an open-source 3D model generator and engineering computation environment from Tangency Labs. The tool builds parametric parts, automatically generates computational meshes and validates them, and runs simulations of mechanics, heat transfer and fluid flow. The code is written in Rust and distributed freely.
What it does
As described by the author, FieldCraft combines structural, thermal and fluid dynamics modeling in a single tool. It claims automatic generation of hexahedral and tetrahedral meshes, its own nonlinear implicit and explicit solvers for finite element analysis, heat transfer and computational fluid dynamics via the lattice Boltzmann method. The authors note that every result is checked against theoretical values.
Export is to the 3MF format with face tagging. Before the model is output, surface checks are available: vertex welding, watertightness, orientation and self-intersections.
The repository tags mention AI agent support and the MCP protocol, meaning the tool can be used not only by a human but also by software agents.
What you need to run it
The platform, as described by the author, is macOS. The description says to open the .dmg image and drag FieldCraft into the Applications folder; builds for Apple silicon and Intel are mentioned. The authors do not report other operating systems in the fact sheet.
The code license is Apache-2.0. It permits use, modification and distribution of the code, including as part of other products, provided attribution and the license text are retained.
The latest release is v0.7.5. The last code change is dated November 5, 2026, and the repository was created on October 13, 2026.
Who it suits
FieldCraft is aimed at engineers who need parametric modeling tied to mesh validation and simulations in a single open tool. AI agent and MCP support make it interesting for those embedding model generation into automated workflows.
The tool is not suitable for those working outside macOS — the authors do not report support for other platforms. Nor is it intended for tasks requiring export to common formats like STL or STEP: only 3MF is claimed.
FieldCraft is at an early stage of development — the version is below 1.0 and the repository was created recently. This is worth keeping in mind when planning adoption into production workflows.
