OOOSplat 0.6.0: Task Management via MCP and Transparent Materials

OOOSplat 0.6.0 has been released. The release adds MCP support for controlling generation through local AI agents like Codex, a multi-window task manager, correct handling of transparent PNG and MOV files, plus updates to COLMAP and OOOBrush.

What it means

OOOSplat is an open source 3D generator under the Apache-2.0 license that turns video or photo sets into 3D Gaussian Splatting. As described by the developer, the app runs on Apple Silicon, while the Windows and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x86_64 versions are in Alpha status. The entire generation process runs locally on CPU and GPU, with no uploading of materials to the cloud. Export is to PLY. The new features primarily concern the workflow: MCP lets an external agent create tasks, track progress, read logs and cancel runs. The server listens only on a local address and is off by default. The multitasking interface groups tasks by status and lets you build a queue with auto-start of the next draft. For transparent materials, alpha channel handling has changed: RGB is no longer premultiplied, and COLMAP masks are built using an Alpha threshold of 0.5. Quality parameters have also been updated: the fast profile is capped at 500,000 splats, the balanced one at 1,000,000, while the precise one selects resolution and limit based on available VRAM. The developer does not specify exactly how the new splat limits affect generation time or the resulting size of PLY files on different configurations. For users already working with OOOSplat, the release adds flexibility in batch processing and removes some of the limitations when working with materials that contain transparency.
